It's nice to put yourself first

As I sat behind that laptop, I thought to myself; why is it I am always writing about other things, why can't I just write about how I feel right now? The answer to that was "your blog is about beauty, fashion, and media". So as I rambled in this thought, it occurred to me, the way I feel about myself influences everything I write about. So today I will take the time to talk about me. I am tired, very tired indeed. I woke up about 12pm this afternoon and since than my life was all about getting my works in, I had four essays to type and an English paper to revise. Today was definitely not a day of beauty or fashion to me, I was dressed up in green leggings and white tee-shirt; you know those comfort clothes you go for when you really need to relax. Fashion is not just the way you merge things with a beauty end result, it is life. So today, life for me was all about comfort and work. Nothing was stopping me today, I went outside wearing my comfort clothes knowing what people might say and think but I didn't care because, it was all about me today. Sometime you just have to be you, say what you feel, do what you please and not worry about the consequences; which is exactly what I did with this blog post. Today I didn't care about fashion, beauty or what the media had to say about these two, I cared about me. You should try it some time :)

Female Sports Reporter Sexually Harassed By NY Jets

Nearly one week later and the questions hasn't been answered. Former beauty queen turned sports reporter was going by her normal routine which involves interviewing athletes when she became the target of New York Jets players. Last Sunday Ines who has been a reporter for about 9 years was at the Jets stadium in purpose of an interview when the team member started harassing her. According to them, Ines Sainz was dressed very unprofessionally and inappropriately. 

 

As you've noticed, Ines is a very curvaceous, attractive young lady. When the incident took place, Ines was wearing a white buttoned up blouse, jeans and boots; as above. 

1. When I read on this story and followed up on it, I realized whether she was wearing lingerie, bikini or nothing at all, she should have never been disrespected in the first place. She's a lady. She's was just doing her job. Women should never be disrespected by no one, especially in situations where she did nothing to provoke it.
2. It's a sport affair. What do you want her to wear? A three piece skirt suit?
3. She's a formal beauty queen, an image of sexiness has to be portrayed at all times.

These three facts rambled in my mind for the past week. Women should always be treated professionally and respectfully at all times especially in this situation.

         I've always thought blogging was so complicated, a waste of time and done by only geniuses so when I was told to create my very own, not only was I petrified I was also confused. Everyday I visit about three to five blog sites, so you can say I'm your typical "gossip girl". I love being informed whether it's general news or gossip, the fact is I'm learning something I didn't know. So, when I had to create my own blog I couldn't think of anything, I called friends to help me out and I got the same response "what do you like", "it's all about you", "make it your own" and my answer was "everybody doesn't like what I like". As I struggled with that notion, I looked across from me and took a glance at my roommate whom I think is exceptionally beautiful and said to myself  "well she fits the beauty category", then walked over to my suite mate and saw she was on her laptop and thought "there goes media". Then it hit me, whether you claim you're not into beauty, fashion or media individually you're wrong. I realize we all have something in common.
         Beauty in America has taken a whole new audience and it's become so narrow minded that if you don't look a certain way and weigh a specific pound you aren't classified or called beautiful. The media might define beauty as blonde hair, blue-eyed, size two and you don't fit that category, does that mean you're not beautiful? I don't fit those category and I don't think I'm ugly. Beauty comes in so  many different colors and sizes, beauty is variety, beauty is ever-changing.

When I think of beauty, I envision her. Even though she has a type of beauty that is down played in our society doesn't mean she isn't beautiful. I think she's beautiful and that makes me feel good about myself and feature because I can relate to her. Just because she isn't portrayed in the media as a beauty icon doesn't mean i shouldn't believe I'm beautiful. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Be you of Caucasian, Hispanic, Native-American ethnicity, you are beautiful. I've had friends who think they're ugly because they were either plus-sized, too dark-skinned, or had a certain feature that wasn't beautiful to them and it broke my heart listening to them. I've met people who said they don't care about beauty and getting dressed up is for insecure people, but they had makeup on and brushed hair. It always strike me as, if you didn't think of what people thought of you, why do you wear makeup and brush your hair? Beauty is a very huge part of everybody, everybody wants to be beautiful, everybody wants to seem beautiful.

       "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the streets, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what's happening" Coco Chanel. Fashion is everything whether you agree or not, it is. There's a reason why you're dressed like that; there's a reason why you look that way. Whether you're dressed down or up, fashion plays a part in it. The idea you had or what look you were going for has to do with fashion. H&M is one of my favorite store because; they're semi cheap, has a lot variety and very playful with clothes. Fashion is supposed to be fun and colorful.  I get the "you look fashionable", "you're so into clothes" "i like your style" and then they go I don't care must for fashion but you look nice.  The thing is, I dress the way I dress because it's the only thing that works for me. I look at people and give compliments because I could never wear something they have on but I get the dead stare like are you trying to mock me. Fashion to me is the idea behind the clothes, it's the way you make the simplest of things work. Everybody tries to be fashionable, whether it works or not; an attempt was made.
        Media is the largest growing network in the world so media basically dominates everything. Media influences the way you think, who you look at a certain opinion and your reaction to situations. I am not ashamed to say, "media made me" and you should be either. It's a fact. We focus on the media and their opinions so much that we down play our beauties and style. Media is the reason beauty is so important in our culture, media is the reason everybody wants to be fashionable, media is the reason we dare to be different. Media has some advantages and disadvantage, media isn't always right because it's not everybody's opinion. Teens have committed suicides because they didn't think they were pretty, people laughed at them because they look a certain way. The media affects everybody and in this day and generation the media has become somewhat of our mentor and guide. We are not the media, the media is us and once we come to that realization, we will take the next step into making this world a better place for us; where we can love ourselves for who we are and forget what others opinions are.
